Bob
started his musical career at the age of 15 in his hometown of Torbay
NF, with his father on the accordion and two fiddle players.
In the late 60's he was joined by a couple of
his younger friends and formed the band called "Symbol". In the early
70's they added a couple of new players and became "Joy", playing
in the St John's area. He then moved on to play with "Angus O'Toole"
which became an Newfoundland & Labrador touring band on the College
and University Circuit. In the early 80's various bands followed including
the successful band "Medicine Jar".
After moving to Alberta in 1996 he was joined
by other musical family members, including his son Rob and it seemed
like a good idea to bring a little of the traditional Irish/Newfoundland
music out west. The old Ludwig's were dusted off and Fair Haven was
borne.
Shortly after his oldest son Chad joined, the
groups first CD "The Chase" was released. The rest of this story is
history as they say and now with the release of Fair Haven's second
CD "Better Days " a new chapter is being written. Bob has no plans
to hang up the drum sticks for a long time to come. Having rediscovered
the fun and unique experience of being once again part of a father
- son(s) group he looks forward to the possibility of maybe one day
passing the sticks to his grandson.
